The US government mint has announced the release of the official 2009 Presidential $1 Coin Proof Set. 2009 is the 3rd year of US dollars honoring the Presidents of the United States. Coins are released in the order in which the presidents served in office.

Each coin displays an attractive image of the US Statue of Liberty on the reverse. The obverse shows a head image of the president.

The 2009 coins feature a new change from the prior year dollars. In 2008 and 2009 edge-lettering showed the year of minting or issuance, E PLURIBUS UNUM, the S mint mark, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. New for 2009 the motto

What are Proof Presidential Coins?
These United States Mint proof dollar coins are made from coin blanks that are specially treated and polished. Special polished coin dies are used to mint the coins. The blanks are then carefully put in mint presses and each coin is struck at least twice. Striking the dollars twice results in coins with extra sharp details and beauty. Each dollar has a mirror-like background, with a frosted look (cameo effect). The coins are then packaged in a protective mint holder to showcase the set.
