Ultra High Relief Gold Coin to be released in 2009Trial production of the "most beautiful" gold coin ever minted has begun. The US government has authorized the US mint to make a special one ounce 24 kt, solid 99.9% gold coin for the year 2009. This gold coin differs from the US Gold Eagle and Gold Buffalo Bison coins in that it is a modern version of the Super High-relief Double Eagle gold $20 piece made in 1907.
High relief means greater detail
A high relief gold coin is unique in that the details are raised much higher off of the surface of the coin. To accomplish this extreme detail the mint has to strike the coins in high power presses multiple times. The result is an ultra gold coin with extra detail and extra thickness caused by the high relief details.
Based on federal law these high relief gold coins can only be issued during the year 2009. The public will be able to buy them from the US mint and coin dealers in early 2009. This gold coin is destined to be popular due to its beauty and unique ultra high relief features. (Read more below.)
